This is the skirt I have been working on since the beginning of January. I am about to give up. I have ripped it apart 3 times and now I must rip it apart again. I can’t remember why I had to rip it apart the first time, but the second and third time it was because it was too big. The fabric is weird. It looks like corduroy but it is stretchy like Lycra. Each time I think I have it finished, it is way too big. I finally wore it the other day with a safety pin at the waist. Anyway, I hope to rip it apart again this week, because if I don’t do it soon, it will be too warm to wear it.
I only have one picture of the skirt since it was just too cold to stand outside and take a bunch of pictures.

Great job! I STILL haven’t mustered up the courage to make anything for ME to wear. The first time I tried, after ALL the work, it didn’t FIT me.
Great job!
That’s beautiful. I love the material! I haven’t made myself something to wear in years.
It looks good! How are you fitting it to your self to see if it will fit before you sew it? I may have some suggestions if you’re not already trying them.
Don’t give up on it, especially when you’re so close. Consider it to be one of those challenges which will build character! It looks great!
I love that fabric. Don’t worry if it gets too warm to wear it. It’s classic enough in design that you’ll be in fashion for years.
Did you put stay-stitching around the waist before adding the waistband? This will help keep it from stretching too much. Also, after you take off the waistband (again!?) put it on inside out and mark where it fits you. I would even think about making it a quarter inch tighter on each seam, to allow for some ‘give.’
Good luck, and hang in there. I think it will be worth the work when you finish!
I am so impressed! I am sewing-challenged, having only a Christmas stocking and Noah’s bedroom curtains on my list of completed (and half-decent) sewing projects. How about a post on basic mending (buttons, broken zippers, falling down hems) for hopeless cases like me?
I LOVE the fabric pattern. I know the type of material you are talking about. Too much give in the wrong places makes is hard to get the right fit. Hope you will so you can wear it but if not then it will be ready for next year, right? Great looking skirt.
